đ„șIâm kidding! We all know it DOES NOT work like that.
Letâs look at some REAL, PROVEN strategies to kick sugar.
đ§đ°đ« Quick reality check. It wonât ever be easy. Sugar has been proven to be as addictive as COCA!NEđł Read the study here if youâre curious.
BUT ITâS POSSIBLE. I PROMISE THAT.â€ïž
đStrategies to Kick Sugar for Good:
đ«°Â The Awareness Method:
Instead of going cold turkey, consider gradually reducing your sugar intake.
Get curious and just start noticing without judgement (thatâs the key).
đ„€Start by identifying the sources of added sugars in your diet, such as juice, soda, snacks, and processed foods.
Read food labels. Youâd be shocked at the amount of things sugar is hiding in!đ”ïžââïž
Then slowly, one by one, replace these items with healthier alternatives like fresh fruits, nuts, and seeds. By gradually reducing your sugar consumption, you give your taste buds time to adjust, making the transition more sustainable in the long run.
đ¶ïž Embrace Bitter & Spicy Foods:
Seems like a strange one, I know.
But bitter and spicy foods slowly retrain your tastebuds so that over time, cookies will start to taste intolerably sweet (and be less appealing). I know this is possible, Iâve done it myself.
đ«Foods you can begin to retrain your tastebuds with are dark chocolate (75% dark or over, but start low and over time build your way up to 80%) I actually genuinely enjoy some solid 85 or 90% now, but it took 15 months to get there!
đAnother great one is grapefruit! Or black coffee, green tea or kale.
Â
*If you have a history or risk of stomach ulcers, consult a practitioner before increasing bitter or spicy foods.
đČ Stay Hydrated & Well Fed:
What the heck does hydration have to do with sugar cravings??
Turns out, a lot.
đ¶Thirst or hunger can actually masquerade as sugar cravings.
When you get a sugar craving, drink a nice big glass of water & have a healthy snack. Then decide if you still need the sugar!đ§
đđïžAnd while Iâm on this point, simply STOP buying the sugary snacks! Iâm telling you right now that if I had a bunch of cookies in my house, theyâd get eaten.
But when I go shopping, I make sure Iâm shopping while Iâm well fed and not currently experiencing sugar cravings so I donât buy the crap in the first place!đ
